The Voodoo strain was developed by Amsterdam-based Dutch Passion as an improved backcross of a Thai landrace cultivar. Spice, hash, and herbs are the most commonly reported Voodoo aromas. According to rumors, it tastes like pepper, citrus, and fresh herbs. Voodoo is a landrace backcross with stable genetics that makes it a hardy plant ideal for novice growers. The strain has long, thin fan-shaped leaves that grow tall; when grown indoors, height management is necessary. Voodoo prefers semi-humid climates, outdoor gardens, and lots of sunlight. When grown outdoors, the strain blooms by early October and indoors in 56 to 63 days. Voodoo is sold in the form of seeds, and growers of this strain may also sell clones.

With a reputation as big and green as its comic book namesake, Bruce Banner is a powerful strain. Bruce Banner, named after the Incredible Hulk’s alter ego, was developed by Dark Horse Genetics, a Los Angeles-based company, to be one of the strongest cultivars available. Five phenotypes were developed by breeders using the OG Kush and Strawberry Diesel parents. Bruce Banner #s 2, 3, and 5 were chosen due to their high potency, while #s 2 and #4 were quickly dropped. Breeders can anticipate a 9–10 week flowering period when their plants are grown indoors, as well as a high level of disease, mold, and pest resistance. The long, fluffy buds that are produced by this tall-growing plant practically glisten with trichome density.

An infamous cultivar known by many similar names is known as Afgooey or Afgoo. The strain gets its earthy, tropical flavor from its parents, Afghan #1 and Maui Haze. According to Seedsman seed bank, afgooey typically contains 15% CBD and 16–20% THC. With broad fan-shaped leaves and short, thick plants, Afgooey grows. It thrives indoors and out, especially in warm, semi-humid climates, and blooms in seven weeks. Sea of Green (SOG) or Screen of Green (ScrOG) are suggested indoors by Seedsman seed bank in order to produce dense, trichome-coated buds and potentially enormous yields.

Co-founders Subcool and MzJill created and bred Jilly Bean, a hybrid of a female Orange Velvet cut and pollen from a male Space Queen, indoors at West Coast seed bank TGA Genetics. According to Subcool, they acquired the Orange Velvet clone, known at the time as “Melvin,” from a neighboring family who owned the mother plant sometime around 2006. As the last seeds of its kind at the time, they crossed the female with their own Space Queen male. Jilly Bean, which was named after MzJill and featured a tropical jelly bean flavor in addition to its candy-citrus, limonene, and pinene-dominant scent profile, was one of High Times’ Top Ten Strains of 2007. It won the Adam Dunn Show Invitational and was named the best Sativa of 2014 by the publication. Jilly Bean is now in the possession of MzJill’s seed bank, MzJill Genetics, based in Oregon, and is no longer distributed by TGA Genetics. The Jilly Bean that MzJill is currently breeding is an open-pollinated F2 hybrid variation of the strain, claims Subcool. Jilly Bean has medium to tall growth, resinous, trichome-heavy flowers, and leaves that range in color from bright green to burgundy to purple, according to MzJill Genetics. Furthermore, its effects are characterized as upbeat, euphoric, and giggly. A number of Jilly Bean phenotypes, including feminized and CBD-rich varieties, are being developed, according to the MzJill Genetics website.

The Bulldog Seeds in Amsterdam is the innovator of Bubblegum Kush. Unsurprisingly, it’s a hybrid of Bubblegum and an unidentified Kush. As you might expect, bubblegum is among Bubblegum Kush’s most popular reported aromas, along with spices and earthy pine. Additionally, it is said to taste like sweet, fruity bubblegum with a sour citrus undertone. A cross between Bubblegum and an unidentified Kush produced the indica-dominant strain known as Bubblegum Kush. It produces medium-height plants thanks to its hybrid heritage. With an average flowering period of 49 to 56 days, Bubblegum Kush is known to yield enormous amounts of marijuana under the right circumstances. However, it requires a grower with some experience because, when grown indoors, it will need support in addition to Sea of Green or Screen of Green. Both indoors and outdoors are suitable for Bubblegum Kush, though the latter offers higher yields. Seeds for Bubblegum Kush are available.

True to its name, the high-yielding strain Big Bud produces extra-large, frosty, fragrant buds. It started out as a cross between the Northern Lights, Afghani, and Skunk strains from Sensi Seeds growers in the United States. In order to escape America’s war on drugs, Big Bud traveled to the Netherlands in clone form in the 1980s. Sensi Seed growers in the United States located the strain and back-crossed it with the genotype of its original Afghani parent as it spread throughout Amsterdam and developed into a commercial strain. The outcome was the more dependable, celebrated Big Bud of today. The variety won the first Indica prize at the 1989 High Times Cannabis Cup. Its growth characteristics are still impressive today. The strain may be easier to work with for experienced growers because it frequently needs additional branch support to prevent its enormous buds from snapping the stems. It thrives outdoors in a warm climate and grows quickly to a height of 50 to 65 days. The Big Bud seeds that Sensi currently sells are regular, non-feminized.

Sour Diesel, also referred to as Sour D and East Coast Sour Diesel (or ECSD), is a popular strain with a rocky history. Online sources claim that Sour Diesel rose to fame in New York in the mid-1990s as a result of breeder AJ (short for A**hole Joe) accidentally pollinating a Chemdog 91 female with Super Skunk pollen he brought back from Amsterdam. The final product, Sour Diesel, reportedly got its name because it strained business ties among growers as it circulated through New York’s black market for marijuana. According to online sources, the strain grows tall both indoors and outdoors and produces average yields of colas that are rounded, sticky, and medium in size after 42 to 56 days of flowering.

Tangie, a strain with strong, unmistakable citrus and tangerine notes that was influenced by the well-known strain Tangerine Dream from the 1990s, has a distinctive aroma. Tangie is a cannabis strain developed by DNA Genetics in Amsterdam. It comes in both regular and feminized seed forms. Tangie is a cross between Crockett’s Farm Tangerine Dream and DNA Genetics’ select male Skunk. California Orange, also known as Cali-O, and Skunk #1 were the parents of the original Tangerine Dream. Tangie served as the model for the development of several citrus-flavored hybrids, such as Sour Tangie (East Coast Sour Diesel x Tangie), Tangie OG (Tangie x OG Kush), and Agent Tangie (Tangie x Agent Orange). Tangie takes between 63 and 70 days to reach full flowering, producing large yields of dense, sticky flowers with vibrant green leaves and noticeable orange stigma hairs. It grows tall until roughly the fifth week of flowering and does best outside. In the Northern Hemisphere, the growing season lasts from late September to early October, while in the Southern Hemisphere, it lasts from March to early April. Tangie won prizes in ten different strain competitions during its first year on the market and is well known for its potent, sweet-and-sour citrus flavor and strong aroma.

The original Purple Punch strain was said to have been created by the Hawaiian breeders at Supernova Gardens through a cross between Granddaddy Purple and Larry OG. Regardless of where it came from, Purple Punch has found its way into the hands of some of the most well-known growers in the world, including the Jungle Boys of Los Angeles. This indica-leaning strain, which has a grape soda and blueberry aroma, might sound sweet, but it tends to pack a powerful punch; some strains are said to have THC levels between 20% and 25%. Purple Punch has a moderate to high yield range over a seven to eight-week flowering period and is suitable for both indoor and outdoor growing environments. This strain is said to produce dense, purple-hued buds at this stage, along with frosty trichomes with regular internodal spacing. Although this variety is reportedly resistant to mites, if the flowering cycle and curing process are carried out without adequate airflow, mold growth may occur.

Mimosa is a sativa-dominant strain made by Northern California-based breeder Symbiotic Genetics by crossing Purple Punch and Clementine. Mimosa, which took home second place in the sativa division at the 2018 High Times Cannabis Cup in Santa Rosa, California, has gained popularity as a strain for daytime use and is thought to produce an upbeat and energizing high. The seeds are reportedly challenging to find because the strain is a recent one that first appeared in 2018. This strain smells as sweet as the trendy and fruity brunch drink it is named after, with citrus notes and earthy undertones. The medium-sized plant can flower for up to nine weeks and is suitable for both indoor and outdoor growing. Spade-shaped, light-green colas with orange stigmas and a sugary resin coating are what growers can anticipate.
